I spy a 2000s department store beach cruiser bike at a stall. Its been outside, judging by the start of surface rust and faded paint, plus the rear wheel was tacod. I ask how much they want for it, figuring anything under $10 would be good for parts.

Seller: "I'd be willing to let it go for $70."
Me: "Why so much?"
Seller:"Its an antique."
Me: "errrr, yeeaaah, its not an antique."
Seller: (in a slightly defensive tone) "How do you know?"
Me: "There's a 'Made in Taiwan' sticker on it.
Seller: "So? Taiwan made plenty of things a long time ago."
Me: "There's also a web site address on the sticker."
Seller: (few moments of silence)"Well, it still a cool old bike."
Me: (to myself) "PWNED."

Lol! Sounds like the guy at the swap meet here, everything "scwinn" is 80 and up! hahaha   he had a dyno in excellent condition for 480 dollars in excellent conditions, half of the paint on the rear fender was gone lol

I am always on Craig's list and often expose alleged "Antiques". One person posted a Schwinn "from the 50's or 60's" that was "restored" to the point of adding reflectors to the pedals and the modern day warning stickers...

Here was mine.
Me: how much for these bars? (fixie style with oury grips and a cool krog light)
Seller: 10
Me: 10? ( just repeated to verify)
Seller: um ok 5
Me: sold!

I like it when I ask someone if they have and old or vintage bikes. When they say "yes", they show me stuff from the 80's, 90's, 00's......
That's why I always ask WHAT vintage?

Now I'll specify Mid-70's and earlier. Before, they would say "I've got an old Schwinn" and after they've pulled it out the barn, I find myself looking at a '95 Walmart Schwinn......

Yeah and make sure "pulled it out of the barn" isn't "pulled it out of the weeds next to the barn"
