It's actually a Schwinn Fore brake (drum brake). I got the hub shell from a pile of '49 Schwinn Phantom parts. I had attempted to use it on my 2024 buildoff bike DNF. I had to pony up for the repop parts to get it working.
The balls in the Morrow hub were anywhere from just ok to really rough. I swapped them all out with these.
Finally out of the deep freeze, at least momentarily.
Still haven't tensioned up the spokes on my wheelset.
Here's a little mockup with some Holy Rollers just for fun.
First is with the 22T chainring that I plan to run.
With a 24T Western Flyer chainring. I might start here and drop down to the 22T depending on how it rides.
With a different set of bars. Still a Wald Aero stem, but these bars are a bit wider and a bit rattier.

Care package arrived yesterday. May be a "non-traditional" paint job in the future, weather permitting.

Time to clean up my sprocket options. 26t Schwinn, 24T Western Flyer and 22T unknown(Westfield?)
All three had silver paint over rust/flaky chrome. Schwinn still fairly ratty, the Westfield? cleaned up ok on one side, pretty flaky on other side. Western Flyer will look good after some light rust removal.
Worked on the truss bars. Thick white paint over rusty pitted truss rods.
A little better. Might be better after some time on the wire wheel.

Offered up the Schwinn sprocket with another dogleg crank that I had. A 41 also that had been rechromed. Threads not great. A real adventure getting everything to thread up straight. I will probably opt for something different. I have lots of modern Schwinn cranks.

I looked around and saw a listing for the Westfield(?) sprocket and it said Empire 1940s Etats-Unis. I don't know if that means anything to you or anyone else............md
