I buy old wheels and use the spokes that don't break.
A quick clean up and you got cheap spokes.

Hear that. On survivor "conservations" I reuse spokes: modern straight gauge and/or stainless do not look right. Plus: for the type and amount of riding these oldies get they're plenty strong.
What I'm looking for in this thread is experience with pricing for DT or Wheelsmith DB spokes for some "hot-rod" wheels. Sure I could google it, but sometimes a referral is easier/better.

x2 on used, also buff the nipples, really like the look of polished brass nipples

Niagra Cycle seems to have good prices or you might find a deal on ebay depending on the size needed.

Monarch-man.....When I have to buy DB stainless spokes( only DT/WSMth) I
tend to end up on ebay. You will see different box quantities like
40-count, 50, or 100-count that will have the best per-spoke price
...When the price gets to around 50cents per spoke (or under, with free shipping)
then I will purchase a 100qty because I tend to build 36-spoke or 28-spoke wheels on 26" rims, sturmey archer or sachs 515 hubs....so any unused I will use on the next build, which we all know comes sooner than later..

Member CRASH sent me a link to a website that I cannot find in my PMs for the life of me. Black spokes, measured, cut and threaded ran me pretty cheap.
