BF Goodrich?

Scooped this bike up earlier to build up for the lady. It says Challenger on the tank and chain guard, but the head badge is completely blank. :x Been lookin around the interweb, but all I found was tidbits and a headache. I think it had a headlight at some time, but someone traded it in for that basket. Anyone come across one of these? Serial is on bottom bracket, first two numbers are 41, but they didnt put serials there till 48' right? Thanks in advance guys.

looks like a murray or jc higgins or sears by the guard/sprocket

Murray built. Late 1950s would be my guess.

I am leaning towards murray as well, although the guard and sprocket say Higgins. Here is a close pic, but alas no skipper.

Just noticed the rack too, definitely murray built

I had two JC higgins and one of them had that same rack.

BF Goodrich switched from Schwinns to Murray built (and probably others) in the mid 50s. Trying to save a buck, I guess... ~Adam
