No doubt some good stuff here came from books, a few of these guys are actually writing them. There's also a lot of "experts" writing books that are full of themselves. My knowledge is based mostly on my great uncle teaching me to check my axle nuts, brake arm and tire pressure as a first grader, and being interested in the subject. You might be surprised how much you learn just fiddling with the darn things for a few decades. Someone once gave me a book called "Richard's Bicycle Book" that was alright as a source of general bike knowledge, as I recall he was a little biased against bikes without drop bars and derailleurs, but no one's perfect. I've learned as much here as anywhere else about specific details of older brands and models, and I've only been here a little over a year.

no books required. just a book mark on your computer to the best darn bike forum this side of the sun.
