Well, anything would be better than the old ones. They weighed in at a whopping 4/12 lbs each with tubes!

Try some 'flat tracker' style bars (Im not saying flat bars), they make my Dyno Duece feel pretty good (though I wish I had a 2 spd hub), and matches the style.
Keep the apes for profilin' (if they are a quick swap out) depending on your ride.
I like your truss rods too, I need to find that link to see if it will work on my old W-Flyer fork.

Didn't mean to sound critical, just throwing it out there...
You totally upgraded from 4 1/2 lb tires!
No prob, and thanks for the tire choices. 8)

I don't mean to thread jack but do any of you know what the skinniest tire you could run would be?. I love the lines of this bike and was thinking about making a hybrid commuter out of it. I read that 29er rims are wider than 700c even though they're the same height.

you can probably run down to a 25c on it since its the same size as a 700c road wheel and pretty narrow.

The chain is fine, and all the bearings are greased and spin free. I added a longer seatpost when I bought it just in case, so it fits me. I'll try it with skinny street bike tires and lower bars and see if that changes anything...

Yeah the lower bars just may do it, as to having high bars, you have very low pedal power. I bet it would be just as cool with low black bars :D

all my bikes are sluggish, i blame it on the power sorce.
