bike part terminology???

It is a simple design, and I've had one bike with that springer on it and it was pretty smooth, but by design as the fork compresses it forces the tire forward into the bump it is compressing for causing more stress and sacrificing some of it's ability to smooth out said bump. Forks that allow the wheel to move up (thus back based on head tube angle) are a better design to smoothness and durability.

I have to disagree with you. I've only had one bike with a non Schwinn springer. It was a Monark with a single spring. Everytime you hit a pothole the thing sounds like it's going to fly apart. Terrible design and a rattle trap. I'm sure there are some other brands of good springers, but I'll stick with my Schwinn springers, thank you very much. Gary

You must also include that you are a schwinn lover! Although i have to agree with you that the single spring monark fork is a danger to society but the double spring monark fork is a million times better than the schwinn knee action springer fork. Therefore i agree with yoothgeye when he says that vertical movement is better. Thats why new motorcycle forks have vertical movement.

But when it comes to personal taste and being that i weight almost 300 pounds i do not like any springer fork since all of them have a hard time keeping the wheel centered within the fork when taking a curve at 40 MPH going down hill. Seeing that front tire wanting to touch the side of the fork is a scary site. I guess thats why speed bike dont have springet forks.

Hey Gary, the monark knee action springer fork is way better than schwinn's fork!

sprocket is for coasterbrake hub or front gear for single piece crank /chainring is the front interchangeable gear in front / cog is the Singlespeed and fixi hub gear (all gears)
seat is banana ,and "normal seat" / saddle is leather with springs
am i wrong on something here?

and how you call the outer rim of a wheel ? wheel rim ring ? when is do a search for "Rim only" they want to sell a complete solo "rim" with hub and spokes laced up

A bicycle only has a saddle because of the way you sit on it (straddle), unless it is a recumbent which most actually have a seat that you do not straddle.

From my understanding, the outer ring, as you call it, is the rim.

rim + hub + spokes = wheel

Now, this is where it gets admittedly hazy, as the wheel does not include the tire, yet there is no separate word for a wheel with a tire on it.

Yeah some names don't sound right to me at all like Chain ring, it should still be called a sprocket when they are individual but when they are put together they could or should be called a sprocket set and the same goes for the rear instead of cassette which most people associate with audio or video cassette that came out before them.

wheel does include the tire IMO ..a car have 4 wheels ..a bike have 2 wheels and when you pimp your car , you buy new rims ,
and when we say 26" wheels on bikes , it only mesure 26" with the tire on
but rims on bicycles seem to mean 2 things at the same time ..(hub spokes "outer rim") and ("outer rim only )
like "chopper us" call the outer rim (Rims only) and the complete assembly is called (rims)

That's true. I'm just down the road from Chicago. Other brands are scarce around here so I went with what was easy to find.

You may be right about the Monark twin spring,,,don't know, never rode one. Next time I see one, I'll take a ride. I sold that single spring Monark. Junk! Gary
