I finally built a rack to hang bikes on! At my old place, I had two sheds lined w/bike hooks. Here, the renovation plans are subject to change, so I didn't wanna do anything permanent in the basement. I have plenty of used two by fours from walls I've already demo'd, and I had the idea in my mind. The hard part was keeping the height to 80", so it'd fit thru a door. Actually, it hit the door frame by 1/8"! :( I knocked the top of the door jamb out (it's a junk door/frame anyway). I did add 2x2 runners to the bottom. One, to tie the two uprights together. Two, as a stop for the rear tires to rest on, and keep the bikes upright. Got some cheap roller wheels from Northern tool, and we were good to go! The rack is 88" long, and hangs 9 bikes. It's a little sway-ey moving it loaded, but not terrible. I did unload it before I rolled it back inside (the patio back there is kinda ruff.) Also, I used liquid nails on the joints, with 2 1/2" screws.

I've also noted that WalMart has a metal version of this that they hang their cheapo Next MTBs and Cruisers from outside.

That is a GREAT & very simple solution to a problem I think most of us are facing. Thank you for posting that! I'm gonna build one asap!
