I have a scion tc and my only option is to get a hitch mount for it because there are no trunk mounts that would fit it due to the design of the rear of the car and also my bike doesn't fit in my car because it's just too wide in certain areas. I could fit a few mountain bikes in there easily because they are narrow, but not my one cruiser

So being that the hitch mount is the last option...or at least that I can think of, I looked into mounts for them. The thing with most of the mounts I have seen though is that the way they work is they lock onto the rubber of the tire in order to hold it there securely.

Example:

I even emailed that company and asked them if it would work with my bike and they said no because it needs to lock onto the tires.

Also I happened to find a piece on hitch mounts on the same model of car I own...but no bikes with fenders tested unfortunately:

I'm pretty clueless on how to get it places...especially the beach, where it belongs

Any help would be great, thanks!

We have a Yakima DoubleDown 4 bike rack that works great... I've carried two heavy Electra cruisers plus a mountain bike on it. Don't think I'd try more than 3 cruisers though.

I stalked Craigslist and after looking for a while found a used one for $40. My car has a 1.25" receiver, I'm guessing that's what you would have on your Scion too.

If you need to carry bikes without a top tube, you can use one of these or something similar:

Have used this on both of my wife's bikes, it works great but be careful of pinched fingers!

Thanks outback. I guess I should have mentioned what bike I have...it's an Electra Vince.

I don't think the rack you have would work with the bullet tank frame :|

I'm pretty certain that the 1up rack would work with the front wheel because there is exposed tire in the front, but there needs to be some work around with the rear because half the real estate on that tire is taken up by the metal fender. I don't know how hard it locks on...I was thinking of maybe trying to put a rubber fitting where it clasps on as to reverse the roles so to speak, but I wonder if it would bend the fender from the force it puts on it.

From what I've read on the mtbr forum, the 1up rack is a home run with everyone.

I also contacted Raxter about this set up:

...they told me that the components have a little padding, but still may scratch the paint.

I don't think any retail outlets sell them, otherwise I would go pick one up and at least give it a go rather than dealing with the potential hassle of purchasing online.

I'd say your best option would be to trade in the vehicle and get something bike friendly.

Or just sell the car and go everywhere with the bike :p
