I decided this to enter this build off. A little late I know but I'm always buying bike parts, starting a build and get bored or it sits on the back butner and gets sold or parted out. Maybe if I enter this build I'll finish one. I came across a schwinn cantilever frame bike for sale local here in the boise idaho area that had a set of spinergy wheels on it. The bike had a rattle can rainbow sparkle paint job and a bunch of odd and end parts thrown on it . I thought the wheels looked kinda cool on the old frame and bougt it.
After thinking about it for a couple weeks I came to the conclusion that I want to mix a variety of styles and parts, mixing a little of the classic looks with some more modern day parts. I really like the looks of board track racers so maybe a little of that style as well. Hence the name of the build. Most of the stuff I build changes as I go, once I can step back and look at how things are turning out. It has to stay somewhat simple due to the fact I'm away from home during the week. This morning I stripped down the bike and started building and sanding parts when I realized that I had not yet taken any pictures. I put the parts on a work table and took some pictures. I'm using the cantilever schwinn frame, spinergy wheels, and a few odds and ends off the bike I purchased. The forks are aftermarket Columbia springer . I also want to use a smaller diameter crank sprocket so I picked up a 24" chain guard hoping it will be more proporsioned with the smaller crank. I'm not yet decided on color or small details like seat and bars yet.

Start of the build.

I cut the stem off another pair of forks. The bottom portion was thicker that the top so I cut it in half and machined the lower portion to fit over the 1" threaded stem. Once I weld it the forks will be 1 1/8 threadless

Also cut off the rear fender brace tabs.

Sanded most of the old paint off and did a quick mock up. I'll work more on it tomorrow

Welcome to RRB and it's great that you're jumping into the build off feet first.
I'm sure you'll be able to pull those interesting ingredients together for a tasteful build in the timeline.
Who doesn't like a good smorasbord any how?

They are the spinergy rev-x roks .. l don't know much about them, but like you I've only seen the 4 spoke ones until I came across these. I googled them to see what they were.

Here are some pics of what I did this morning. Figured I'd post a few more detailed pics that way people can see there is more to this build than simply bolting a bunch of parts together.

Got rid of the key hole in the forks.

The bottom bearing cup hit the forks so it needed to be clearanced.

Welded up the tube for the threadless stem. I drilled holes and plug welded them in multiple spots making sure to stay clear of where bearings would ride.

The upper spring mount on the forks had to be modified to fit the 1 1/8 tube and rebent to fit the length of the head tube. I also concaved the bottom of the stem to clear the top nut of the spring which allowed me not to use a stem spacer. That way the bars can be lower and I think it looks better.

The cranks had a sprocket guard that i removed. I wanted to use just the sprocket without the guard due to using the 24" schwinn chain guard. The bolt/nuts for the sprocket had to be made shorter. I also cut the mounts off the chain guard and rebuilt them to sit lower and fit tighter around the sprocket. The rear of the guard had to be clearanced to fit the rear sprocket.

I won't be using front fender braces so I cut the studs off of the stainless bolts on the bottom of the forks. I then put them in a drill and used sand paper to give the heads a spun look.

And that is it until next weekend. Here's wherei t sits as of now...

Digging through my parts last night and came across some head badges i had made a couple years ago. I no longer live in Washington and sold my business last year but think i'll paint the background of one and use it anyways
