Brake posts?

What are those little posts called that are welded on to the seat stays and fork that you attach brake arms to?

And... do you know if there are any made that can be clamped on, or screwed or bolted through the seat stay?

I've run into a major snag with my son's upgrade. I finally got it spread, and I've fit the wheel in with the derailleur mounted. I mocked up the caliper brake, and it rubs the stays. So... I'm thinking maybe I can put posts on there, and go with a linear pull brake.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I found that poking around the internet. It just looks so... intrusive.

I'm wondering if welding on a different brace might work. I found the screw in mounts, but I'm concerned that if I drill into the seat stays to mount those, I will weaken it, and it'll collapse.

Clamp on would be best as it will do less harm to the paint. viewtopic.php?p=324794#p324794

A picture might help generate ideas.
If it is rubbing the stay is a spacer in order to push it away from the stays a little?

I have mounted several of the center screw mounted caliper brakes on the under side of the stays instead of top side. They work great and usually work with no mods on a cruiser frame. You may have to swap the cable hold and cable housing stop ends on some.

I'm currently sick as a dog, and can't provide pictures. But I'm using an adapter that hooks over the brace instead of through it, and it doesn't fit right. And even if I could get it to, the post isn't long enough to extend the assembly out to keep it from rubbing. I don't know if I can change that post to a longer one. I'll have to look when I can get up.

Well, I am going with the drum brake solution. I figured it was easier to figure out the new spoke length and rebuild the wheel then it would be to try to weld or just duct tape/chicken wire a solution on. So...
