so this is my latest project, i call her 'brat rod'
this is only early stages at the moment and seeing im fairly new to the bike building scene i want to keep it simple and not get ahead of my self with welding etc.
so far i have buzzed back the guards to get rid of the surface rust.
twisted the rear guard back to sit lower
i hand painted the spokes red for that rat rod look. ( but i kept the rust on the rim :) i think it looks trick)

i plan to paint the guards in matte black and then add my custom pinstriping ( with a brush!!! none of that sticker sh!t)
lower the front end with a new crown ( tiwsted is all i can find )
ill also paint the forks and handle bars black
ill be adding a number plate on the rear and a speedo off an old excercise bike. any thoughts or tips or anything at all please tell me! i need all the help possible i think
anywho here are some pics, tell me what u think

regards Ivan

That looks like a Lovely Lowrider bike,....which is what I started with as a parts bike for my first build(still in progress). In my case i'm using some of the lowrider parts on an old Mongoose BMX frame.

It's a good place to start IMO. A little paint here and there and a couple of parts swaps and you're deep into a good rat rod look.

My bike was all chrome, with very little rust(desireable) so i've been scuffing down the shine and painting alot of stuff myself.
It looks like you're off to a good start, which I think is the biggest hurdle for customizing.
Once you get started the ideas start coming easier.

i have the exact same bike and found the cranks to be very short so I fitted a crank from a bmx it made it a lot more comfortable for an adult to ride
