I had a fun morning commuting to work today. I was just about there (to work), when I saw a truck and trailer full of junk to be dropped off at the Transfer Station which is on the opposite side of the street.
My eagle eye caught an old 10 speed bike on the top of the heap! Well, I just couldn't let that happen, so I pedal up to the truck and ask the guy for the bike if he's gonna junk it. He says "sure grab it" so he's in line by this time, I grab the bike real fast so the attendant won't see the coo happening. I put the back wheel on, (thank GOD for quick release!), I mount my bike, grab the other with my right hand. I remembered I only have a rear brake mounted on the right side, so I decide to stop and switch hands right?
Foolish and idiotic move! The bars lunged right and I wrecked onto the pavement bashing myself up pretty good on both knees and chest. It didn't really hurt too bad, but it sure bruised my ego HARD. It turns out that it was a French made Fixte with Mavic center pulls and Simplex derailluer. The brand is an early 70's Gina or something like that. I'll post pics of the bike tomorrow...here's the injury pics hehehe!

YEOWCH!
Glad it wasn't worse. But look on the bright side- That bike now has a genuine history, and a great story to go along with it. You can't sell it, now.

But you do have to give it a name. How's Christine sound?

There's no such thing as a free bike. You just made the first installment for ownership.

CRASH, you are quite correct, and thanks scrumblero, I wasn't wearing a helmet so it could've been way worse!

It's going to be funny when you look back on it though! I used to find quite a few on the way to and from work. Ghost rode one like new lugged frame 10 spd 2 miles remaining into work then 7.5 home that nite talk about sore wrists! Don't have the opertunity to do that any more the scrapers get them all.
