I been using this rear wheel I got cheap at from the Electra Bicycles closeout.... The Color just wasn't right and when I put the red fender on looked like I was suppose to be in a Christmas Parade.

Time to fix it.

Before...

Supplies...
Old Can of paint from when I painted the picnic table.

And cool ratty set of fenders I got from xc204.:cool2:.. I think there extras from his Roadmaster build.

I wanted the rear to mach the brush painted front rim as much as possible.. including the sloppy paint on spokes and nipples

Always wanted to brush paint some bike parts:)

After!

Not a minute to soon with the fenders... the ride to work on Sunday.

I really like how it turned out!... Thanks for looking!

I can't bare to ride the bike with studs yet it adds about 10 to 15 min to our trip. I am without and my buddy (a stronger younger guy) has them on I can coast as I ride behind him he has to keep pumping.

Skip you are as hard core as they get. And the bike looks so much better.

Looks good, I really like the snow picture.

Nice and Ratty.

A very cool look thats not always easy to pull off. Great job, looks awesome!!!!

The tires I have are not that aggressive and rides on the center most of the time.
I don't think they slow me down that much.... but I can feel it in my legs after the ride.

I think what I like about this bike so much is the white frame with tank that kinda matches. There are not enough White bikes in the world.

I found this on the internets - Ride over and see if you can find the building! :)

"Monark factory was just south of the intersection of grand ave and fullerton. that would be about 6100 west and 2300 north."

Not a bad idea.... Just might do that.

Quick search found me this.

"Monark was one of the many bicycle manufacturing companies that used to do business in Chicago, making our fair city the bicycle-building capital of America at one time – according to Geoffrey Baer in hisrecent Biking the Boulevards documentary. Based on the poster (above) that my cousin found on ebay, they had a factory on the far west side of the city at 6501 W. Grand Avenue. Unfortunately, nothing exists with that address now, but their neighbors at 6515 W. Grand Avenue are still there – the Radio Flyer company!"

"I did a little more digging, and learned that Monark also made bikes at a facility at 1240 N. Homan, also on the west side of Chicago. I found a few ads in various editions of Boys Life Magazine from 1936 and 1937that referenced this address. Since it was sunny and sorta warm this past Saturday, Mr. Ding and I got on our bikes and went in search of the building at 1240 N. Homan. It’s still there, looking vary much like many cool old industrial complexes in Chicago."

I just found this Skipton...
Red wheels look great on the the Monark
Lots of room for snow pack between the fenders and studded tires
Glad you got enough snow to enjoy the benefits of the studded tires :)

Steve,
Lots of space between the fenders... Sure does work well in the snow.
Thanks.
