Chain wheel making noise.

OK so whenever I pedal the area around my chain wheel makes a clanging noise. It sound like the chain and chain wheel are grinding together. Also on a side note can you use wd40 to oil the chain :?:
 
Does it make the sound once per revolution? If so, the crank is hitting the chain guard or the kickstand on the other side.

If it's making a constant clanging, check the clearance of your chain guard to the chain and the sprocket.
 
see if the chain is rubbing the other front sprocket...
edit: is yours a 10 speed like the pic? With two front sprockets?

..............should have an oval plate on one side...
 
check the front derailer (chain mover :mrgreen: ) to see that the chain is aligned right and not too far off to one side...
 
Ok I found the problem :mrgreen: . I took the chainwheel and all that apart only to find my bearings are shot :? . Also my right pedal will not come off :x
