Cheap freewheel removal

On a hub for a crummy department store bike comes crunchy ball bearings and an el cheapo freewheel. This el cheapo freewheel only has two detents on the body, no notches for a removal tool.
So, what do I do?

I use a punch that will fit in a detent and a big hammer to knock them loose.

Should I get some liquid wrench, as well?

If it won't break free with a few good swings, you could try it.
