and blam! epic truss rods! there is no movement, but they are going to be redone with a little thicker pipe just for security

seat is floating thanks to a chopped up fork mount. and i made my own drop down kick stand from a flat iron piece, some springs, and bolts.

the plan for this bike is beight with black forks and not alot of chrome.

questions: anyone know what kind of frame this is?
i hate these bars, opinions on what would look right? thanks!

Re: chicken scratch (day 1)

Snydur thats very good thinking on the stems. I like the bar look as is. I'll be watching this one .. very cool! Oh and someone at work threw out a new set of small car pads still in box I should have snagged em.

Re: chicken scratch (day 1)

thanks for some feedback! im looking at them now, and i like the style of bar, but they are just to wide and look awkward from the front. so ill be on the lookout for something similar, but skinnier (pixie bars are perfect) the other thing i didnt mention, is that the front forks are going to be a springer. i have a plan and i have already done a rough throw together, but for now its saving money and relacing the rear wheel

i have no idea why that picture is in black and white, i didnt even know that was an option on my camera. haha

some old seat springs with ends cut off supply suspension. thats a thick walled aluminum pipe for truss rods. a bearing cup bolt fomr the neck of a parts bike and a bearing nut from the cranks on a part bike keep the springs in place

Re: chicken scratch (day 2) springin

Very cool homemade springer front end!I love the out of the box build!!! 8)

Re: chicken scratch (day 2) springin

just came back from a "ride" down the street. aired up the tires and rolled down.

good thing i build bikes and not matresses for a hobby, cause that was un comfortable even with the springer haha  but it did its job. onto the rear!

Re: chicken scratch (day 2) springin

well i decided to keep it a 5 speed because of afew issues with the rear hub and rims. so i decided to make it a cool one then

yay
well, stay tuned

Re: chicken scratch (day 3) shiftin

I really like that shifter. you may need to post how to make that

Re: chicken scratch (day 3) shiftin

looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong night  but the rims are rebuilt, re greased, and basically trued (little knick in the rear, but i might have to relace it because i crossed over on two spokes)
so either way the rims are back on and i was fiddeling with the shifter.

allready working on that. haha

Re: chicken scratch (day 4)rollin

chain and cranks on today. camera is down though. also got the rims completely trued, and tires back on. fdriend of mine came over and saw the shifter and just said "holy **** that is sick, i dont know what it is, but its sick"

Re: chicken scratch (day 5)cain and crank

I like the shifter if it works but what holds it in a particular gear?

Re: chicken scratch (day 5)cain and crank

^^ thats the problem. i always ride in 7th gear, so this shouldnt be a problem, but unless you hold it there in that gear and ride with your free hand, it only stays in 7th

hmm make a notched plate n mount it so it stays in gear ???? some brass or sumthin :?

I have an idea of how to make it work, I might try it then post it up.

The shifter looks cool none the less.

Re: chicken scratch (day 5)cain and crank

I liked your truss rods so much I stole the idea! I can't wait to see how that shifter comes out, looks cool.

Nice specs too 8)

Re: chicken scratch (day 5)cain and crank

well, this didnt turn out exactly as planned. the whole stick shift and five speed just wasnt my cup of tea. but they do work on my jc higgins roadie
and the rims and tires work on this one alot better to
