Today my wife and I brought home the newest member of the family Jaxon James born August 7th. My question is this, have any of you "ratted" out a baby seat? I looked around and just did not find a single one I thought was cool. Pics would be awesome! :)

Hmmm not sure I'd want to put my child in a ratty seat. lol. You could buy a decent seat and make a ratty looking cover.

of course safety would come first. I had a decent pull behind carrier with my daughter but as soon as she was too big for it, I stripped it down to make a cargo trailer not expecting another one, but we love him! :)

The current thinking among new parents (according to our "kids" who have our grandchild) is that baby seats are not the way to go. If you fall over on your bike for whatever reason, you child falls over too. Child trailers, a bit more expensive, are much safer. A one hour stay at a hospital can cost you more than you have in your entire bike collection. Sad, but true. BTW: the whole wife side of the family works at a major hospital in Ft Worth. They call motorcycle riders "donors" if that gives you any indication. Son-in-law works week-end trauma. Be safe out there, please.

I actually feel better with my son in my child seat then in our trailer. The trailer is so big and a hassle to manuever around. With the seat I ride how I would normally ride by myself without having to worry about the trailer. Yeah I know it's alot safer being that their completely enclosed and it they were to roll over their pretty safe. My son just has more fun being he gets to see more instead of sitting in trailer having to look through one of the little plastic side windows. Just my .02

When our kids were little we had the typical bike seat on the 10 speed. Never had a problem. We barely had health insurance, and never used what we had, except for birthing our two. We were very lucky in retrospect. Times have changed in case something/anything happens or goes wrong, is my only message. I don't have a trailer or a baby, but the trailers have seat belts unless I'm mistaken. (Jerry the wet blanket).

when my son was born, we bought one of these ( its a danish design, but you might be able to buy/make it over there)

p.s.: this is NOT me, just found a photo on the webside http://nihola.info/en/

Buck,
Congrats on the new one, so do you weld? build your own trailer with roll bars like a race car and put in 5 point seat belts. A little side srceen on the windows and a number on the side panels, slicks and a spoiler, paint it ratty and your and cool. have fun with your baby and project.

i got one of these iberts, but honeslty it would probably look like you strapped a tupperware container to the bars on a rat. i thikn the best idea would be to make a trailer/sidecar out of an old wagon (at least thats what i wanted to do)

I even got a spoiler from a powerwheels lambo I'd donate to that project.

congratulations on the new baby! i have an awesome nephew who is 14 months old now, i cant wait till he is big enough to ride a bike.
about the baby seat, i like the plastic kind that sit behind the wheel or sit on the top tube, trailers are good but are kindof a hassle. also the feeling of a trailer might be kindof scarry for a toddler, although a hot rod trailer would be pretty rad!

also: i googled 'hot rod baby bike seats' and this picture came up. i think its pretty cool
