A buddy of mine from work who knows I build bikes told me he had on old Columbia mens bike that he wanted to give me. I was happy to accept his offer and he even brought it to me. My excitement turned south when he dropped this off to me.

It was an 80's Columbia Sun Runner Cruiser in really rough shape.

It sat in my garage for a month until I decided how to resurrect this bike. My idea was to build it as Salt Flats racer like this
so_cal_speed_shop.jpg

Stripped it down, sanded, primed and painted
CIMG2668.jpg

I laid the white paint over the red while still wet to get a cracked finish .
CIMG2675.jpg

Then sanded more for that desert aged look.
CIMG2677.jpg

Made a faux tank/number plate
CIMG2678.jpg

Currently waiting on more parts, tires, ideas
Attached it with pipe straps

Drilled out the original, chain guard and chopped a few inches off some bars I had laying around.

Re: Columbia Salt Flat Racer

It's coming along quite nicely! Do you plan to carry the scallop onto the tank in white and red or leave it silver like the wheels on the So-Cal cars?

Either way, build on brother!

Cheers,
Dr. T

Waiting on tires in the mail.

Finished off this build. I am happy with it. My total investment was around $60. Thanks for the bike Jimmy, if you want it back now I understand.

I love builds like this...very creative yet simple.

That turned out excellent. 8)
