Check this out, interesting, he has a thing for the good ole balloon tire bikes, neat article. It is pretty cool to watch him stumble on a bike find.

Yeah the quote under that picture proves his ignorance.

"Sometimes Mike's passions get the best of him. He paid $60 for this rusty Elgin from the 1930s, but it turned out to be essentially worthless."

How can that be worthless? I'm sure some guy on here would love to have that ratty Elgin tank bike. It is a Rat waiting to happen.

I agree, I could make a sweet one out of that, I'm sure he has a bunch of killer bikes tho. I would love to do what he does and get television payed!! Bikes would be my main focus on each hunt. :D

I know what you're saying, but I think it's a trick of the mind... We WANT to believe Mike is holding a bike in the photo, but he isn't. In reality he's holding a conglomeration of loosely bound oxidized iron particles and mud. It is shaped like a bike, and to us it looks like a bike, but trust me, there is no bike there any longer.

Now it's relegated to the grotto, it just sits there and gets rained on, slowly returning to the earth.

Some bikes are salvageable, this one isn't...

Wow! Winning the state time trial in ANY category is a HUGE accomplishment, and anyone who can compete and do well in criteriums is a talented rider. I did not know that Mr. Wolfe was that accomplished of a rider.

I notice in the comments section of the article that Leon Dixon (of the infamous NBHAA) worked quickly to piss all over Mike's article. Succinctly illustrates what a lack of character Dixon has, that's really pathetic.

mike wolfe is from davenport iowa, which is where im from and where i live. ive been to his shop and he has some great stuff. but trust me way over priced on most. as far as being a accomplished rider...he owned a bike shop in the "village of east davenport" i never got to see it but ive been told by family and others that it was awesome. he still owns that building and rents it out to a salon.

I visited Antique Archeology in early October. It was a beautiful day there along the river. LeClaire is a picturesque, classic small American town. Like any town I'm sure it's got a few problems, but LeClaire represents something desirable and less and less easy to find in America, it is not the cesspool that our big cities and suburbs are quickly becoming. That little town still retains an enviable innocence.

Antique Archeology is less a shop oriented for sales of antiques, rather, it is now more of a museum where the exhibits might be for sale for the right price and the store/entity REALLY supports itself through the sales of coffee mugs, trucker hats, and hoodies. I'm not knockin' it, that's just business.

I picked up a dandy of a restored Black Phantom when I was in IA that day....

I made the mistake of emailing that guy from NBHAA recently just asking him a simple question and you've never heard from anyone with such a bad attitude, a real smart mouth. I won't make that mistake again. :?

I stopped at the store this past November and there must have been something important going on in LeClaire because Mike was there and I had a moment to chat with him. He's very nice to talk to and took lot's of time when little old ladies wanted their picture taken with him.

If you look very closely at the Grotto photo you will notice a old Ford V8-60 HP flathead converted to marine use complete with Offenhauser heads, dual Strombergs----VERY COOOL!!

Danielle wasn't there that day, darn the luck!!! She has done much to passively promote the acceptance of tattooed women in the workplace front office and I admire her for that. Hope to meet her sometime.

Thanks for pointing this out, I read down to see it, what a jerk.

Now we know why he can't respond to people quickly with their questions.

Too busy out posting gripes on websites.
