cork grips

I'm thinking about buying some cork grips for a project I'm planning. Are cork grips ready to install and use as bought or should something be done to seal and preserve them? What can be used to clean them after use? Thanks

I bought some awhile back at my LBS,they told me to glue( I used spray adhesive) the inside of the grip.I was told that they would be loose if they got wet and not glued.

Not necessarily, if the whole thing swells it could become a larger diameter.
