The idea is to space the gears very closely. Works OK in a race or group ride.

14-17-18-19-22 Originally used in ZZR Huragan/Jaguar in the sixties & early seventies. Thinking on using it in a build, but first of all I need to buy a special wrench to get it off of this wheel  The wheel has the same alloy racing hub that I used in my Wagant gravel, some nice spokes & nipples, and a wrecked tubular tire alloy rim.

Here is mine. 13-14-15-16-17-20.
I was swapping out the shifter cable in this picture. I also just installed the wheel, so I had not installed a tire yet.

I also recall corncobs used in early Favorit/Eska bikes (Chechoclovakian manufacturers) that had only 3 cogs - 14-16-18 or something like that. Also Romet made those for some bikes from the early seventies such as Kobuz.

2 tooth gap is not a corncob. a corncob is when there is a one tooth gap in 3/4 of the cogs.

That is interesting to see an over 1 tooth jump on the first 2 cogs. They are usually 1 jump, 1 jump, 2 jump...

I have seen some older road bikes that have the larger chainring only one tooth larger than the smaller one. I think it is called half step gearing.
My Hercules 10 speed had them close together.
