So I was checking out an old barn full of bikes today and in the pile were a few of the classic "tripple step" Lobdell wheels. However, there were a few other odd ones that I couldn't identify. I'm hoping you guys can help me figure this out.
Ok, the first one was a tripple step 26" wheel. It was very similar to the standard ballooner Lobdell, except the are where the bead seats. If you looked at a cross section of the rim, where the bead seats, the profile is slightly different. On a standard rim, the rim goes alomost straight up, but on this one, it goes almost sideways. It kinda looks like as if the wheels was riden with no tire. I know that this is not the case, but it has a profile like that. Also, it has some hardened sealer around the bead. Was this a much earlier rim that took a glued on tire? Ideas?
Next was yet another tripple step wheel. This one was a 28" I believe, and a little bit skinnier. Hub was cut out of this wheel.
What are these two wheels worth? I can probably go back to get them, but I didn't want to seem greedy today because they have a few more bikes I am interested it.
Sorry, no photos.
