I'm thinking about getting a skater style helmet myself. They come in flat black and don't cost an arm. Maybe we should look into making a rat style cool helmet...build off? Did I just say the B word?!? :mrgreen:

Thanks for your post langsmer, it got me thinking and I invested $20 on a cool lid today. I plan on wearing it every time I ride as of now.

Now, these are kindo controversial on some "other" bike forums but my LBS/Skate shop has these "Bern Hard Hats" for the skaters and they are SUPER comfy and dont sit all high on your head, they sit more like a regular baseball cap. i think they are perfect for "cruiser" riding. they are just not DOT like a regular bike helmet, so its your choice...

Yeah I was one of those non head protector types, but drivers just don't care and/or know they have to share the road with us! So after a few close calls, I started thinking, and now I got three, One is a skate helmet frome the LBS, the middle 'helmet' is my Soviet paratroopers helmet for cruising, and the third is a construction helmet one of my skate buddies passed on to me after rigging a chin strap into it! I know I'm safest with the first, but.......... I get some entertaining looks when I sport the other two :shock: :shock: :shock:

im really glad to see this thread, safety doesnt get brought up enough. we trick out our bikes, why not trick out our helmets? i use a motorcycle 'lid' when pedal on streets outside fo the neighborhood, but i suppose i should start wearing one all the time.
