craigs list in my area is gettin to the point of to many nothin bikes, the majority of bikes are ones people cant sell at garage sales and craigs list is free, alot of 5 and 10 dollor bikes, yesterday the 28th there were 87 schwinn listings,4 worth while bikes, there is an average of 300 bikes every day,a large percentage of the bikes were what i call little pinkies or cheap 10 speeds,2 bad it used 2 b fairly good

people list what they have. Box stores have sold millions of bikes, so that's what they have and want to get rid of, as they are throwaways in the minds of most people who buy them. DFW CL and garage sales are flooded with outgrown cheap kids bikes.

Where do you live? Lots of bikes for sale! Our craigslist doesn't have near that much. Gary

The grass is always greener..... some folks lament a CL Bike section with too few bikes, others have complaints similar to 5Speed's in the OP. In either case, one might wish to switch places, but in reality, neither situation is ideal.

We'd all like to see our local CL showcasing a large number of good bikes at reasonable prices, but unfortunately, that's not going to happen. The Phila CL often has some nice bikes on offer, but you gotta sift through so many sub-standard bikes, and when you find the good ones, the prices are pretty steep. Anything decent listed at a decent price is gone same-day, often to reappear later that week with a new, inflated price.

Most of what I buy on CL are frames or basketcases where I want just the frame or another key component. I find that most CL buyers want complete riders, so the competition is less stiff for frames and incompletes.

At the end of the day, I don't take any of it personally and I don't let it bother me. Shipping costs aside, I think that RRB F/S is much better than the typical CL. So, we do have other options

My only "complaint" with the DFW flippers on CL is that they have about 20-40 road or MTBs each that they repost EVERY-COTTON-PICKIN'-DAY. You go to check the ads and it's the same group of bikes OVER AND OVER AGAIN for months. I'm not sure whether they're not understanding how the market works or not, but if you have to repost something 100 times over the course of 2-3 months, you need to lower your price or call the scrap metal guys. :21:

I agree, but I couldn't bring myself to click "like" b/c, frankly, I hate that practice. The same jokers do it all the time on the Phila/SJ list, plus they cross-post on both lists, so you get piles of the same in the "nearby craigslist" section. I'd probably never buy any of there stuff anyway-- overpriced, in general-- but even if they had a hot bike at a nice price, I think I'd boycott'm.

There is one guy in the Lakeland FL that posts several times a day almost of the same junk welded bike with a motor attached that could probably fall off and burn your leg as it is. Warriorcycles he goes by on CL and it seems Craigslist just will not kick him off no matter how many people report his posts.

Unfortunately the folks with rational pricetags on their bikes usually sell them within a week or two, while the jokers trying to get a mint for their broken 30 year old department store bikes keep reposting them for all eternity.

The reasonably priced bikes probably outsell the ridiculously priced bikes ten to one, but since the ridiculously priced bikes never disappear they are the majority of what you see on CL.

Same in Jax, but I go to antiques and search for bikes. Still junk sometimes but that's where I found my 46 CWC at a good price.

You are so nice, you said could fall off when the sad reality is that motor will fall off soon!

Here in WA, the guys selling bikes with gas motors like to proclaim in their ads that they are "street legal". The only problem is they aren't and they haven't been for about 3 years now. You can have up to a 1000W electric motor on your bike here, but if it's gas powered then it has to be licensed as a motorcycle or moped, which by all accounts is next to impossible. It's a stupid law and it sucks, but it's still the law and you can bet the motorized bike sellers know it too.

Yup, we have the same motorbike postings! Cheapest way to go 40 mph is how they advertise here!
I have noticed that Craigslist has stagnated, nobody is selling except the thieves. The Klein for $50 is stolen.....
But just the same bikes posted over and over.

For the most part CL where I am is Walmart bikes from $25 to basically store price & people that think anything from the 90s or older is worth $75 or more even if it is junk that would cost $100 or more to make it usable. But once in a while somebody puts something up for a fare asking price.

There's only a few gas kit bikes listed here and they are easy to use here as they are considered mopeds and only require a regular drivers license and dot helmet to operate on streets (50cc or less and not to exceed 30mph)
I have one but the bearings in the motor are shot so maybe I should say had one lol.
