Determining Pedal Thread Size

I recently bought a new set of Bear Trap pedals for my Redline but the part that screws into the crank is too big to fit in the hole. How do I determine what size I need to get that will fit?

As far as I know pedals only come in 2 shaft sizes 1/2 and 9/16. So if what you bought were too big they must be 9/16 and you need 1/2.
Generally one piece cranks will take 1/2, 2 and 3 piece cranks 9/16.

take your pedal into a shop and say, "I need the other size."

Don't be caught out by the French 14 mm x 1.25 mm pedal thread size.
You will not find it on one piece cranks or BMX pedals.
