It's actually DupliColor Ceramic Engine paint and the color is Universal Gold. I'm using their self etching primer, color, and engine clear. It lays down really smoothly and sticks to damn near anything, also has been very durable for me in the past (I use it on motorcycle frames and engines)
The low gloss black lays down nicer than any rattle can I've ever used (but of course it doesn't use clear coat)
Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love
Thanks but I can't take all of the credit there, my buddy Andrew that did the fab work thought of it. I thought it fit the feel perfectly and using the original seat post meant no fussing with tube diameters
Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love
A few more pics in better lighting. It shows a truer example of the color, it's much more warm than the first pics show
Not too bad for a rattle can, eh?
Well this is about as far as I got tonight.
I lost one of the bearing cups months ago before I started this build and both small and large sets that I bought are the wrong size. I've found what I need now, I just need to find a local shop that stocks them...fingers crossed. We have an old town Schwinn dealer still around and I'll trek out there tomorrow
It's driving my freaking crazy not being able to slap it back together...
Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love
I'm not sure on the tubing, but I'll ask.
Without further ado...it's done! Ok not really, the chain was too short, the white grips will be replaced with black, and I'm definitely wishing I'd followed my gut and painted the main fork legs to match the frame. All of that will happen soon though. I'll have to run to the LBS tomorrow for another chain and I should be able to get rolling I also intend to snag a generic cruiser/lowride headlight for it, but will probably paint it.
I may also snag a shorter set of cranks as these come up a bit to high with the low stance, we'll see once I get a few miles on it.
Re: Diamond frame racer...Varsity getting some love
maybe i missed it but, are those the original wheels? my free spirits may have 1 3/8 wheels, heard my tire/tube options are limited. did think about rebuilding the wheel sets in which i may just change out for another size dish.
