I picked up this early Snyder built Hawthorne from another member on here. The bike that I have is all original so I am going to try to keep it that way. I wasn't sure how I wanted to build it but I feel the bike is leading me in this direction.

Here is where I am beginning.

Eventually I would like to get all the shiny bits nickel plated again but due to cash restraints I will go with a chrome powder coat.

The frame and this heavy duty rack will get powder coated dark gray to begin.

I have one of the original Double Drop Center rims and a couple leads on a matching one. They will get powder coated to match the frame.

The tear down will begin this weekend.

I think they want to squeeze some money out of you! I'm sure you will figure out a way around it though. Can't wait to see the pics!

Re: Diamond in the Rough

Between overtime this weekend, packing the Auction bike up to ship and family I wasn't able to get to the tear down. Maybe tomorrow. I did find an era correct Rollfast badge and since Rollfast is the Snyder house brand I will be refering to the bike as a Rollfast unless someone can prove that it isn't one.

Re: Diamond in the Rough

Lookin cool so far! That's gonna be one bad bike when you are done! I knew you could figure out a way around the pic posting thing! Can't wait to see it finished. 8) That rack looks like you could haul an anvil on it! Extra heavy duty!

Re: Diamond in the Rough

Like the direction the Rollfast is going! It will be unique.

Re: Diamond in the Rough

if that diamond frame was made for the older 26x1.375 tires,i have a rear fender for it if you need one.

Re: Diamond in the Rough

I had a half hour to kill before work so I began tearing the bike down and test fit the chain. Unfortunately even with the hub all the way up in the dropouts I am a few links short. :x Now I need to come up with about three to five links to splice in. Oh well, I got nothing but time. Time and a sweet project bike. ;)
