I have a frame that is Worksman built, however the seat post binder bolt is AS stamped, as well as the crank which says "AB AS& CO 32" and then "0009". Did the older Worksmam bikes use Schwinn components, or are these incorrect parts added by some previous owner? Does anyone know what date the crank is?

Lets see pictures of this thing. Schwinn made straight-bar frames that are a lot like a standard Worksman INB in many ways. These frame designs would date back to the 1930's. It seems weird that more than one part points you to Schwinn, but stranger things have happened.

I mean, look at all these crazy rat bikes that are a mash-up of Schwinn, Murray, Columbia, and modern components...

As far as I know, Worksman has always been their own thing, and if anything use parts made by Wald. But then they go back over 110 years, so anything is possible I imagine. I do not know of Schwinn supplying components to anyone else in the industry- usually it was the other way around due to Schwinn's dominance of the American bicycle industry (roughly 50% market share for many years).

Here are a few pics. I'm pretty sure it's a Worksman frame, the cast front axle and cooler were made in Chicago. It was a Good Humor ice cream trike, built sometime in the 40's or 50's I think. My hope was that if the Schwinn parts were original, it would provide a fairly accurate date.

Ok that thing is crazy! I don't know if Schwinn made cargo bikes like this or not.
Present day Worksman industrial trikes do have a model with a similar layout but different frame. Their ice cream vending cycles are a whole different animal as well.

A close up picture of the rear frame dropouts might give some more info.

Was there a rear wheel in it when you got it or was it missing or changed out?

Any bike with leaf springs is awesome in my book...

The rear wheel isn't correct, it was missing. Here are the dropouts. They have mounts for some sort of drop stand/fender/rack.

The frame details and rear dropouts look like Schwinn to me! Maybe they did some custom ordered? Might want to post this on the Cabe, and see if any of the old timers there have ever seen one! -Adam

You might want to drop a line to Worksman as well. With the right pictures of that swivel yoke, etc., they may be able to tell you right off if it's one of theirs or not.

There are other companies that made similar bikes, but you more commonly see them in Europe (Pashley being one). That still wouldn't answer the Schwinn question, though.
