I got a free late 80s early 90's huffy women's bike (lavender and paint splatter paint scheme). It had been sitting outside for years, so the white tires had dry rotted into an unrecognizable state. The rear wheel was tacoed, so I didn't even bother keeping it.

I painted it up to put on a 26" cruiser, and then went to put a tire on it.. the 26" tire was too big! I checked a 24" tire.. too small!

I know there might be some some odd road bike sizes, but I don't know if Huffy ever used them on their bikes. Any ideas?

Tire sizes from 26 decimal to 24 decimal

559 mm 26 x 1.00- x 2.125
547 mm 24 x 1 1/4, 24 x 1 3/8 (S-5)
540 mm 24 x 1 1/8, 24 x 1 3/8 (E.5), 600 A
520 mm 24 x 1, 24 x 1 1/8
507 mm 24 x 1.5- x 2.125

Must be a Schwinn S5 or British E5 :?

I measured the diameter of the outer rim, and got 21 3/4 inches. I measured the inner bead diameter and got 21 1/4 inches which translates to ~ 540mm.

using Sheldon Brown's site ( http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html) , the only thing in the 540mm neighborhood is a french 600A wheel, for juvenile road bikes. or a British E5 (24 x 1 1/8, 24 x 1 3/8 ). How either of those ended up on a 80s Huffy, rotting in a barn in Central California, is beyond me.

I bought some kenda 26" tires a few years ago, they were mislabeled and were too big for a 26" rim. I think they were for a wheelchair rim or something. That's frustrating to say the least

mystery almost solved courtesy of LBS.. I have a 24 x 1 3/8 wheel.. now to test if I have the standard or schwinn version.
