A reminder: don't get too carried away when test riding a bike.

I picked up this Raleigh Sports over the weekend. I have been looking for one for a while, but I decided to not keep it. Mostly because it wasn't black. So I cleaned it up a bit, and adjusted the shifter a bit. It was riding like a charm. I was almost getting to love the green paint. And then I decided to ride a bit more aggressively...

Meh, Raleigh. I guess they are called lightweights for a reason.

Wow! Is that one of those fancy triple triangle frames?

Dude! Seriously? :?

I think that little rust hole on the seat tube is where the rear frame was originally connected

Just like the old GT mountain bikes. Very strong. Same way the Locojoe frame chop works. Weld it and have something different.

Things I learned today:

No hot dogging.
Yes, I can break a frame.
Always wear a helmet while test riding.
Fenders make excellent brakes.
I am fat.
Green is a bad color for me.

Thankfully I managed to not really injure myself!

Cman: The Loco Joe seat tube mod? That is what I was thinking when I saw where the frame broke.

Just think you took a British bike and made it Dutch (laid back geometry) Now we are going to have bikes with sex changes wanting to switch nationalities

yeah i thought that at first(just looking at the pictures w/o reading) that you were going to do aka locojoes frame mod

I have a friend who restores vintage Raleigh bikes. I think I'll give it to him for parts. I'm still pretty miffed about the situation. Eh, easy come, easy go.

I took a closer look at it after work. The rear triangle is bent all over. The chain stays are kinked pretty bad at the kick stand. I might have moved the seat tube slightly. No fixing this, not at my welding skill level.
