Double clamp stem

Have you ever looked at something and wondering if you could make one? After looking thru the avail options to buy these stems, I decided it was worth a try. I’ll keep it low cost so if it’s a total failure, I won’t have lost much.
Ordered some motorcycle clamps and found some plate. Found some stems that I could cut and here’s where I’m at today.

On second pic, I’m gonna cut those clamps down.

I've been wanting to do one of those for awhile. I have a few sets of atv riser clamps I got from a surplus buy years ago

Small progress but It took some effort to cut those clamps.

I’m now ready for Thursday. Got a buddy that’s a better welder than me so I’m gonna let him work the molten magic. Also gotta drill the other plate with a bigger bit than I got.

End of day progress. I’m pretty happy with the results.

Plan is to paint these guys black. Not sure about final coating for the clamps.

The stem would look perfect on one of his Double Trouble frames!

Double clamp, double tube, that's gotta equal at least 4x cool!

Man, I’m no bike snob but this bike has got a lot of the good stuff.
Schwinn straight fork, uraya rims, rear Morrow, front Schwinn high flange, stainless spokes, gold nipples, Brooks seat, se bars, finish line grips, chopsaw chainring. And now handmade double clamp stem. I’m grinning like an ......
