I tracked down the grease that I was trying to remember called Mobilgrease 33 from ExxonMobil. It is supposedly the same grease as Phil Wood Waterproof grease.

Just ordered some.

Funny, earlier today my son was looking at the progress on the bike and asked me about how fast I thought it would be. I was encouraged that he thought that it looked fast! Of course I answered that it should be very fast.

What brand of tape are you using to hold the rear struts on?
I love these "no weld" builds.

CeeBee, I can't reveal all of my secrets, but the black masking tape is actually just there to cover up the 200mph duct tape that's holding it in place!

Got the Bendix hub all cleaned and ready to reassemble as soon as my grease arrives. Everything looks to be in good shape.

This is the boring part of the build.

If you look very close, you'll notice that one ball is missing from the bearings.

I learned the hard way that spinning bearings with compressed air doesn't always end well! On a positive note though, while I was at my LBS to get a replacement, I bought a NOS road stem that may just make it onto the bike!

Got some new rubber for the rear. All dragsters need a good slick for quick launches!

A Jerrald slick seems like a good choice.

It came folded up in a box, so I mounted it on the widest rim that I have and aired it up to get it back into shape.

I switched gears today (pun intended) and started rebuilding the Bendix two speed. Just got as far as taking it apart. I'll soak everything in kerosene tomorrow and get it back together later this week when I can work it in.

This thing is an impressive little piece of engineering! Anybody else out there done this? If so, got any tips that I need to know while I've got it apart?

These are a little easier to overhaul and adjust if you take them apart from the drive side. That requires a special little tool that runs about $30 nowadays on that auction site. (when they turn up) You can track one of those down or make one for next to nothing:

Sorry about the fuzzy cellphone photo but it's just a big nut, cut and filed to fit into the locknut. They take about 10 minutes to make and if you're careful, you can do about a dozen hubs before the little "ears" break off.

Btw Ive been seriously considering running a Jerald rear tire as well for this buildoff, I cant wait to see yours mocked up, it will probably heavily influence my decision, so hurry up and mount it! My other choice are a pair of thick slicks, u thought of one of those for your front tire?

I took everything apart except that specialized part (because of not having that tool). I decided that it didn't seem that critical because what's left didn't have any moving parts attached. I hope I'm not overlooking something, but if so, I can always make that tool and take it back apart later. I haven't rebuilt it yet, so if I need to do it now, I still can.

I'm undecided on a rim for the rear slick, but I might stick it on something just to see it on the bike.

I'll be using this Rubino Pro Slick for the front.
