Here's my first attempt at a scratch build frame

My idea was to build a bike from box section steel.
The main design points I wanted were, no down tube, a low top crossbar height, 80mm wide rims and something unusual for the forks
I ended up using 40mm x 40mm and 40mm x 20mm steel and some 32mm round tube for the handlebars

The only parts I used of an existing bike are the bb shell, head tube and fork tube.

WOW!! The fork/bar combo is sick! Very aggressive styling. Nice! I bet it gets attention!

Re: Dub's industrial build

FAR OUT!!!! Definitely one of the coolest designs, I've seen lately. Makes me think of the Mad Max movies. 8) 8) 8)
Got any stats, like length, weight, height, etc? And what colour, you've got in mind?

Re: Dub's industrial build

Thanks for the comments :D

The wheelbase is about 1500mm (59"), height of the top tube is around 710mm (28"), bottom of the frame is about 3" off the ground.
Not sure about the weight but it is heavy, the frame on its own isn't too bad but by the time you add the rear hub, dual-ply hookworms, dh tubes etc it starts adding up. That said the weight hasn't been an issue at all.

As for finish, I'm not sure yet, it's just bare metal at the moment,I think I might leave it that way, it's a common trend with my builds so far

Re: Dub's industrial build

Never thought I'd see a diesel powered bike before.. Where'd you hide the power steering? Ive been looking for an hour...

Nice frame design! What kind of rims are those? I like the FATNESS.

The rims are Graceful Fat Sheba's, 80mm wide with 2.5" Maxxis Hookworms

Always loved this bike, it looked a little long in the middle to me though before, I borrowed your photo last year and modified it...

Probably would have been too short to ride then though!
Love your redesign, really looks great!

Luke.
