Really cool bike, serial number says 1955 or 1957 some where in there.

Built: 06/09 to 06/10 of 1955 or...

Built: 08/29 of 1957.

Where are the serial numbers located on the frame? Looks earlier, to me. Are they under the BB shell? I bet it's an early-post-war, like a '48

Lots of good info here, the Pioneer being a skip tooth, late 40's was my first guess. How late were skip tooth built by Schwinn?

According to some online sources, up until 54. I've seen them on 52s, but i can't really say for sure. I halfway suspect that, if the badge is original to the bike, it might offer you more clues about the vintage than any other factor....

I think your right, I have a 48 DX and it's exactly the same paint scheme

That is VERY helpful. I would have thought it was a bin part with no distinction. The Pioneer is my everyday rider this summer, so I'm in no hurry to take it off the road. This winter I'll take a look with a quick tune up.
