Another CL find. A little more than the $50 bike rule but not too bad. I even used the paypal app from my phone to pay him. I probably will save this for winter project as the chain will need a good soaking.

Re: 1948 Schwinn Excelsior

That's a prewar Schwinn D97X. The frame looks like a '40 or '41, the guard is a '39 or '40. I'd guess it's a late '40 or early '41 bike. It has the correct Miller kickstand, Ashtabula fork, and Torrington pedals. Correct upside down gooseneck, truss rods and fenders. Looks like the drop centers could also be original. All you need is a seat, bars, and fat tires to put it back the way it was. Those are really popular right now because you can get repop tanks for them from Maple Island or ebay for around $100. That's a $150-$200 bike, easy. Super find. I want it! Oh wait...I already have one. 8) Gary

Thanks for all the feedback.

Gary, I dated off the serial number but your info is probably correct. Thanks for the info and nice bike.

Steve, I will let you know when the bears hibernate. I don't have bike with apes yet, so I may be keeping them.

I would love to see that auction listing. I found some others but nothing high dollar.
