Electric Stingray

Hello! I built what I think is the first electric vintage Schwinn Stingray! I used the Ampedbikes SLA kit, and I want to thank them for a solid product and great support.

Here is the bike when I first got it off craigslist Thanks Pete!

I tore it down, wet sanded the frame and clear coated the bike to preserve the sun worn patina

I upholstered the seat and made a stencil with my vinyl plotter, and used a sharpie marker to paint the seat. It has a nice worn look

The hub is a sachs torpedo duomatic 2 speed kickback. my favorite!

Like how I hooked up my throttle? pretty dangerous, but i have a kill switch on the handlebars

I made the battery rack out of an old skateboard. The grip tape helps hold things in place

I fit a LED flashlight into my headlight too.

The bike isnt totally finished yet. I want to make a better battery holder that is not blue.

That's really cool! It's one thing to see these kits on commuter bikes, but it's completely awesome to see this on cool bike like your old Stingray. Nice work! :mrgreen:

Thanks for the positive response guys! The bike is really fun, but a bit heavy and maybe a bit slow.

What did you do with the 16" front wheel?

Awesome bike! I like your patina preservation and aged seat look and headlight too. Keep the throttle. If that is the stock battery pack, maybe just dye it black.

Jimmy the Gent I am keeping the front 16" wheel for a future Swing Bike build. I may sell the rusty pitted Schwinn springer though!

FlatFlip Thanks for the comments. The battery pack is the next project... I was thinking black also, even though I still have a bit of red vinyl from making the seat.

WheelBender6 I thought about putting the motor in the rear wheel, but then it would be a single speed without brakes!!

Cool, I dig electrics and this is a first. have seen plenty of OCC's but never an original Stingray and finished in natural patina to boot.
