Elgin? Colson?

Trying to ID this bike I just got and getting some mixed results some say Elgin some say Colson. Also trying to track down a year.

This era of bikes are one of the hardest to identify! The 'C 6' could mean Colson, March '36, but, I'm not sure they did that month/year coding before '37. It could also be Westfield, Davis, Snyder, or Excelsior. Elgin was Sears' brand name, most were made by Westfield mid '20s- 1937. But they sourced bikes from the other three mentioned, between the teens - '20s. You could post it on the Cabe (Classic & Antique Bicycle Exchange), and get more specific info. -Adam

"C6" is the Westfield frame code for June of 1936. Fork is a Snyder tripple crown fork

I have that triple crown fork on a Sears/AMF I'm playing with, assuming it's part of the original bike. I found a year here:

Looks like a Westfield frame (notched seat post binder bolt).
As Silver King suggested, from 1936.
Sometimes we might see a "C6" date code stamp along with a main serial number with an "A" prefix; (look closely and see the light "A" stamp).
As in 1936-A\C.

The bike looks to have additional owner's or police stamps (sideways).
Looks like the crankset is much newer; and the front forks may have been swapped.
