I am trying to determine a value on this Elgin Twinbar that I just acquired. I believe it is a 1939 I also have most of a girls Elgin of about the same year in parts in a box.

I know you cant find them for under $1500. Ive never seen one cheaper.

Thanks guys, Sorry, I am still trying to figure out how to navigate around here. It may take me a bit to figure out uploading pics other than from FB. I did set the bike in question as my avatar photo. As far as I can tell it is missing the rear light, and the twin front lights. I did receive a cast reproduction of the front cast piece that the lights would have attached to. It is still in the box it was shipped in. The original owner (his first bike) was in the process of fixing the bike back up when he passed away. The bike has a rough paint job. Appears to be brush painted. I will try to figure out how to post detail shots. Thanks again.

Nice looking TwinBar

Looks like what's commonly called a 4-Star. 1940-1941, built by Murray.
non-stock chainguard, chainring (crankset?), grips, handlebars, stem, seat, pedals.
Missing switchless torpedo headlights and "light bar", taillight, fender reflector, rear stand, clip.
These are great bikes, the parts aren't easy to find though.

What is the reddish item on the frame in front of the seat?

Looks like most of the hard parts are there. The missing light bar is a bummer, though. They usually sell in the $500 range.

I'd say the hard parts are missing: lights (special), chainguard (special), lightbar (not all the same). AFAIK the repro bar requires a good amount of finishing.
The last complete original bike I saw a few months ago was ~$1800, and might still be for sale. If the parts are located for this one, you could be quickly upside-down in the $ department.

Is this the piece that is called the lightbar? This is a repro piece that came with the bike.

yes, shot of the underside plz?
I am in and out today. I will try to post a pic tonight. I may have mentioned that I also have the girls Elgin from about this time period in pieces. It has the kickstand and clip and what might be the more correct handlebars, rocket grips (one broken) mainly missing the crank and sprocket. I might look at selling the pair together so that someone could use parts from the girls bike if needed.

It looks to me that there were a couple chain guards available and this may be one of them.

This should link you to the complete photo album for this bike as well as several detail shots of the casting. I will be set up at a Flea Market today, and will be unavailable to reply.
