Experimenting with the wings. I remembered having the rear skewer left over from another project. It is to long as is though. I suppose I will find that it is hardened and extending threads are probably out. They do hang and center up. The track hub axle in front is hollow.

I didn't have a good sense of the scale of those before and thought they were too big. Seeing them on the wheel, they are a great size for the wheels and I think they will look great there.

Deviation from first plan. I went to hardware store for #10-24 threaded rod, washers and nuts. This can be cut to length and I don't mess up a good bolt on skewer.

Need to make another hardware run for self treading lock nuts (I suppose there is a body work name for them).

I only have two.

I shortened the threaded rod, took some material of the corners of the aluminum mounting strip and did a test fit. When I get the lock nuts I can adjust the fit.

After checking on what a 1"-24 thread die would cost I took the fork to Tom Sawyer Bicycle Shop and had them chase the fork threads. I'm not sure what happened during powder coating but they were gulled up. So now the major parts are back together for a test fit and stance review. I'm not happy with the bars. I need to deal with the tank fit and decide on a saddle. I'm also not sure about the chrome fenders or the rack. Here are s few photos at dusk... Comments?

Very creative idea with the jet hubcaps.
Thanks! My goal this year is to keep the build simple. I found the "jet" ornaments in an antique store. I'd seen some at a car swap meet last winter and passed on them because of the price. The second time around they were cheaper and the shop keeper was packing heat.
I couldn't resist using them on this build

Love your plan, looking good!

Luke.
Thanks, the plan is evolving, it's fluid. Got Evans? I saw a decal on eBay but it is too big for chainguard.

Is it the stem that is throwing the look off, not the bars so much?

Luke.
I might try flipping the stem over. I have a traditional quill stem but wanted to update it a bit with thread less adapter. My physique and age don't work well with the board track racer look.

Id use a shorter lower stem flip the bars. Also is the fork bent?
I'm too old flipped bars even though that would look better. Fork may have a slight backward skew.

Really like the headbagde I live about a mile from the Evan's manufacturing site. Sure wish I could find one of their bikes to work on. The bike looks great so far.
Headbadge and parts are hard to find. I have a 57 Olympic and this 54-55ish Special which I found locally.
