i would just like to let everyone know that i just spent the past hour searching the 41 pages on ebay under vintage cans for something to make one of these!!!! thanks alot!

^^^^

I'm laughing with you as I've been known to spend much time on a similar quest.

I got those tin cans yesterday. They are really nice.

Thanks for sticking another idea in my head to obsess about!

Your idea is too cool not to weigh in. One thing I'd like to see is a container that has the same look on both ends, like the mooneyes gas tanks. Both sides are slightly curved outward or rounded. The containers shwonn here being cans, look like either one or both sides are flat, designed to sit on a table.

Another thought would be to use a piece of industrial black or galvanized pipe (say, 3" OD) Get a piece like 4 or 5" long, have both ends threaded, then get scew-on end caps. You'd get that equal look on both sides, and it wouldn't look flattish on the ends.

Spin

^^ agreed, the moon spun aluminum end cap look would be ideal. something's out there, we just have to find it. i'll be scanning flea markets for cool stuff i can use. if you find two, then maybe you'd have identical caps for both sides. the possibilites are endless.

Easy-peasy solution to that.

Buy two of the aluminum Japanese Tea containers. Cut them in half, then either weld them up or get a 1" metal strap and rivet it together.

I was at an antique shop today and almost bought an empty can of Prince William Tobacco. I just wasn't sure if it was too big a diameter, so I left it there.

it would be sweet to either adapt a lid to an old oil can or get a decal or something to make it look like an old one .... im thinking a Wolfs Head or D.A. Speed Oil can would look sweet on BOBBACHOPS :D

Nice Cans!!!

like someone else mentioned, the tea can is not rounded at both ends, for a simulated moon tank. but if you take the lid off, then press it into the bottom of the can, it fits perfectly! it looks balanced. so i ordered another one, just for the lid! :D i`ll post a pic when finished, or possibly stomp them flat, if it does not work! :x

here`s my version of the `ol ebay tea can, that i finally used. mounted it on my spaceliner build, but looks better on a twin bar frame,as there is more open space to see it. who would have thought you could have so much fun, with a $5 tin can!

Ian, I don't care how many "innovative" forks, chopped or custom frames, fat tires, schmancy wheels, blah, blah, blah, THIS has got to be the COOLEST idea of 2008!..........I'll be using it..........Thank you very much.
