I just took the fenders off for the last time before painting, along with the chrome that needs redone. I'm going to send the fenders for rolling real quick. Parts to chrome will go out today to Proctors. I'm closing in on the finish but can't decide on the fender colors. Should I paint them to match the frame with black stripes and white pinstripes? Or, should I reverse the colors and paint the fenders black with lavender stripes and white pin stripes? Is there an ace photoshop volunteer that can do one of these pics with black and then lavender fenders? Comments welcome. Thanks, Gary

This is terrible but I think you'll get the idea. The more I look at it, I think chrome repop ducktail fenders would be best. Actually I think the pink fenders flow best.

Nice bike, I like your color combo. I think if this was mine, I'd do chrome phantom fenders w/accented pinstrips or black w/ white tips and pink colored pinstrips. Sorry, I don't have photo shop just crayons, but maybe somebody will do some chopshop for you. How ever you go it will be cool because it will be of your own design, one of a kind( until someone copies it).lol

Thanks guys! GTCOMA's second pic down convinced me (the one above)...those electric pink fenders almost gagged me. :) Kota is right, it's a no brainer...BLACK fenders it will be. Chrome went out today to Proctors and I'll be seeing the guy who will roll the fenders this weekend. He makes motorcycle fenders from scratch and has now done over 200. He uses an English wheel, which I've never seen used before so it should be a learning experience. I've always beat the dents out by hand and I think it will be nice painting a smooth, like new surface for a change. More pics later.... Gary

And yet, it was still great bike! 8)

Hey B607, it's nice to see you decided to go with the black fenders, will there be strips? Tell us about the metals hanging off the back of the seat.

Yep, black fenders with lavender stripes and tips and white pinstripes. Although the bike looks pink in the pics, it's really a lavender color. The paint is Krylon OSHA "Plum Safety Purple". My camera just can't capture the lavender color for some reason.

Those are WW1 German medals on Austrian style ribbons hanging off the seat. I collect WW1 medals and have a few extras. 8) The one on the left is an Iron Cross 2nd Class...a bravery medal issued during wartime. In this case, 1914-1918. It has an iron core and silver frames soldered around the core. The one on the right is also a war merit medal from 1914. It was issued by the city of Hamburg and is silver and enamel. Both obsolete now as there is no one left alive that any WW1 medals were issued to. Gary

Gary, I'm glad you found your paint scheme. I really like this bike and I don't really think it was pink, the metals sound awesome I don't know if I would have them on my bike unless they were attached securely, I think a nice leather bag with the metals on it would look great.
Here in Kansas City we have the Liberty Memorial dedicated to WW1, It's a great museum and I believe it's the only in the United States.

I'll throw out another opinion...
How about an inset of the second color striped with white? Either black with the pink/purple as a small border stripe about a half inch wide (like the autocycles) striped in white or the opposite?

I like the whole color idea on this, it may be bright, but it DEFINITELY looks sharp.
B607, send me an email, and I'll send you a picture of the idea I mentioned. I will have to hunt it down in my photo reference file.

I REALLY like the color choice you made for this bike.

Hey dos, those medal aren't going anywhere. Rings on the medals are all hard silver soldered and the ribbons are attached to the seat with hard brass hooks and eyelets. I'll bet that I could grab one medal in each hand and lift that cruiser bike clear off the ground. :p Well, then again, maybe not. I would love to see your WW1 museum. I had a great uncle in WW1, 1st Infantry Division, and he used to tell me stories...I called them "Star-spangled War Stories", after the comic books with that name. I've been interested in WW1 ever since.

Thanks rat royale. I think my plan is the same as you mentioned. Paint the fenders black, then paint lavender stripes in the usual width and location, then border that with white pinstripes. Actually, I'll paint the parts of the fender where the stripes and tips go with lavender first...without taping. Then, I'll tape off the stripes and tips and paint the black. When you paint a pastel color like lavender over black with enamel paint you can get bleed through. Even though the black is "on top", the overlap won't show because that's where the white pinstripes go and I'll sand the "seam" before I paint the white with One Shot. I also just stripped the rack braces and I'll paint them black as well if the humidity here in Central IL ever drops below Guatemalan jungle levels. Gary

What are you sending to be plated?

I sent the 52T prewar chainring and crank that came on the bike, a Phantom neck, the original crank hangar cups, adjustable cone and lock nut, the rear reflector housing and the wear tabs from the original B6 style seat. I may send the seat to Bob U in CA and get it done up right.
Sent the stuff to Proctors...$200 for the above. Gary

If you send the seat to Bob, you are SOOOOO right it will be done well. I have a couple of them he did, I can't believe how good a job he does. I am reserving two of them for the up & coming Cycle Trucks that are in the works. (pretty sure one is a '39 & the other a '48) I also have one set aside for the '46 B-6 and the '49 Straightbar frames. (My math seems a little off, I think I may have one for the 34 B10 sitting out there too.)

I can't wait to see what the fenders will be lookin' like, and all those nice shiny little touches.... I have to send some bottom bracket stuff out too, it seems that I bought two "done up" sets, of which the nuts are incorrect or damaged, and the keyed washers are missing. I went to put one in the '49 B6 this afternoon and the nut just would not go on, so I tried the other one, and it has a nasty place across the face of the nut that appearsa as though there may have been something still on the nut when it was dipped. It's a little late for buyer's remorse, as these have been sittting in the box for about a year and a half, and I have no clue who I got them from at this point. Duh.. ME... (repeat and speed it up, you got me!)

Sounds good so far!

Glad you have good words to say about Bob's seat jobs. Now, don't scare me away... What's this seat job going to cost me...approximately? Seat is stripped and bead blasted but needs some nice new chrome springs. Gary
