Finally some cruiser finds

No name cruiser frame (from ebay, but from a local shop)

And a rollfast I haven't had a chance to research yet. Painted (with brush) seafoam green.
$30 and ride's pretty well, but worried about some dead weeds still clinging to spokes.

So, since you got a $75 Schwinn (you are right Sensor) frame for $20, do the right thing and have it media blasted to check for bondo, self etch prime it and have it painted with some hardener in the paint. On your way to a NICE bike there. Now just find a complete girl's donor for the rest of the parts and your'e set!

well damn! sweet. Checked the serial and looks to be a '56 (u90344)

I was gonna chem strip it and repaint it anyway.

Strip it, prep it, self-etching primer it, wet sand it, filler primer it, index coat it over that with a light coat of flat black and then carefully wet sand that off with 600 grit wet paper without taking off anything but the black, wash it, clean it with prep-all and take it to a body shop with a case of beer, ask them to shoot it with the extra next time they do a cool color.

Or you could rattle can it and clear coat it, call it done.

Or should I clean it up and sell it to someone who will put the time and money into restoring it?

Don't worry about what is blasphemy, or what is called what. Quality frame, you scored on it, it deserves some good paint to protect it and it will look great even if you just do what it takes to make it rideable. I wouldn't restore it, it costs enough with a complete bike to start with, you have the foundation for a really nice bike, give it some nice paint, that's all. Plenty of ways to get quality coverage the cheap way. Good adhesion and good seal. Then you can spend some dough on a Nexus wheelset!!!! :mrgreen:

glad to here. I was planning on trying to build it up as a nice rider. I already have a 4 speed nexus that I think might work (bought whole wheel for $5!). But I think I'll keep this a SS unless I do a suicide shifter. Plus I don't want to run the cable for the drum brake and ruin the lines.

It'll be nice. but might take a while to finish. Maybe I'll start a thread this time.

im kinda diggin that rollfast there. looks to be a late 50's or early 60's hp snyder built bike, who also makes (alot) bikes sold as hawthorne, too. really like the olive color of utilitarianism of it, and i just like white rims and bsw tires.

The main one is the elongated holes in the rear dropout, I think it was for different chainguard and rack combinations. Also, the sprocket, while similar to Murray's, the Snyder has triangular cutouts in the first ring around the crank. Murray's are oval. Another point is the way the canti tubes tie into the U shaped rear stays. It's also very close to Westfield/Columbias frames of the same era. For the record, I kinda dig the pea soupy green too! :mrgreen: ~Adam

ahh . i noticed the chainring and i thought murray. but the dropouts dont point back like a murray. never noticed the difference in a murray sprocket and hp snyder sprocket. thanks for the knowledge!

As a paintsprayer myself may i add what a great tip Skoda has given, perfect prep advice and as for the tray of beers for such a favour i know our bodyshop would welcome such a request!

The roll fast will likely be taken apart for parts in the future. I would like to repaint that bike sometime too. But since I already have to bike in my "paint booth", it will have to wait.
