Painted the frame and fork tonight, rustoleum calls this color metallic rust, I'd call it brown. Good thing I don't work for their marketing department... It's a cool color but I was hoping it would be a bit more red to better match the tank and chainguard. Oh well it's done now. Took an indoor and an outdoor pic to try to show the color

a couple days of drying and I can start assembly...

I think it will better to have the contrast of the rusty tank and the metallic rust/brown paint. Looking forward to seeing the paint on a bigger scale.

Time to start putting this bike together! I've had it " built" in my head since the winter build off, the only things that have changed are paint ( original frame was rusty and I was gonna go with that) and a fatter rear tire, just cuz it fit :) I'll start by installing the bearing cups for the crank, the bench vice presses them in square if you do one at a time

. And the same procedure for the headset

the Ross donor bike had a cool snowflake sprocket and the chrome cleaned up nice

I ended up using the whole crank assembly off that bike

now it's time for some dinner and cartoons, hopefully get more done tomorrow

Coming together really, really nicely!

Luke.
Thanks, this is the easy part, and I'm not building a bike from scratch like you, just bolting together some parts :) got a bit more done tonight, a bit of paint and this Higgins fork looks like it belongs on this Columbia frame

truss rods and front wheel went on no problem too

I got these gigantic cruiser bars at a swap meet last year cheap

it's got a 7/8 center, and the only BMX stem I have puts it too low and too close to the seat so I'll use this stem if I can get this goofy logo off

I got a Felt seat, chrome springs and rivets look cool and it's skinny so it exaggerates the width of the tire

and it was cheap too! That's it for tonight, gonna go watch the Simpsons for a while, but it's starting to look like a bike....

Paint bars cranks and seat are looking good together.

Frame color looks good.

Thank you for the compliments, glad you like it! :) didn't get much done tonight, had to clean the shed after work looking for some landscaping tools :( I did get the pedals done, I really like these BMX pedals from Porkchop, they're 18 bucks and come in a bunch of different colors, I chose black for this bike to match the seat and grips

I normally leave the goofy reflectors on because we ride at might sometimes, but they didn't look right for this bike. They pop right off

tomorrow after work I should be able to take this thing for a test ride!!

Love the bear trap pedals, would have never thought to try that style.

Nice detail work! Love the bars too!

Luke.

I'm almost done assembling this thing, a couple more details to attend to then I can start the test-ride process :) I found this beverage opening device in my junk drawer and gave it a home on the dropout

the stem is kinda bugging me, the height and shape are great for a comfy riding position but to me it just looks out of place. I found nothing better at a swap meet last weekend but someone on another build ( forgot who or I would give them credit) suggested painting a modern looking stem the same color as the frame so I'm gonna give that a shot. Sprayed some primer on it tonight, stay tuned.... For now here's a teaser of the tank
