Agreed and maybe these cool old bicycles will still be rideable for decades to come.
With the bearings cleaning up, it is time to get some last photo shots before the bike is cleaned out and made rideable again.
The pictures of fork, chain guard back side and fenders all make the spot under the name badge. Yes the bicycle was black when made.

Pictures of the bicycle frame stripped...the black is starting to pop!
The frame and fork after wet sanding. The frames down tube has some pitting that I will have address next.
Another issue the fork. There appears no way to mount a fender from below. It may have to saved for another project.

I placed my bike swap meet head badge. It was not be the original but it fits the factory holes and gives more clues to the red detailing/pin striping.
It also did a quick gel coat over my frame pits.
Star nut should work on the hole. I've also seen people use a tapered rubber stopper plug

Take the fork to your local auto parts store and fit a rubber freeze plug. Works great.

Low humidity today...better start painting.
First a layer of Rust-oleum surface converter primer in flat black.
Then a layer of semi gloss rust-oleum to dry over the weekend.

I’ve used 2 old wedges from stems to hold a bolt for a fender. Just had to drill one out to remove the threads.

We have a solution for the fender. Using $2 of hardware from my Ace Hardware store was able to buy this rubber stopper plug that fits my 5/8” diameter hole in bottom of the steerer and use a 1/4”-20 stainless screw and fender washer to compress a nice seal. Thanks for all the ideas...simple and cheap.
Now back to paint!
