My 7 year old son and I picked up two Schwinn projects this week, a mid 50's middleweight and early 60's Racer. Neither has wheels; all else is there. We want to build a fat tire Racer. I read on here I can fit a 2.125 tire on a lightweight. The racer was formerly a 26 wheel bike. Can anyone confirm that if I pick up some non Schwinn wheels I can fit a tire that fat in this frame? No fenders will be used. I will document what will really be his first build. Thanks, I enjoy this site and reading everyone's builds.

Agreed, pics will help. Most people here will be able to tell you how wide a tire will fit.

On the Racer, you might not fit a 26 x 2.125. On Varsitys I have run 2.125s, but on a 65 Continental, I could only fit up to a 2.00. I had a 73 Racer that fit the 26 x 2.125 but to be sure, a measurement where the tire will ride (at a different spot on the frame from 26 x 1 3/8) because the 26 x 2.125 actually has a smaller diameter than the original skinny 26 inch tire. This is the 73 Racer:
