Re: Just Venting

I never have a problem packing & shipping stuff, but a lot of times it kills the deal due to shipping costs. To find an accurate shipping cost you need to find a box add the packing & weigh it. Then measure the box & figure the postage from there. I think a lot of people just don't want to spend the time giving quotes only to find out the buyer doesn't want to spend the $$ on the shipping. Just my .02 on the subject.

Re: Just Venting

Honestly for me its just a matter of not having the time to ship thats why I try to do local first. It takes a good deal of time for me to locate a suitable box, tear the bike down, PROPERLY pack and get it to the post office. I only charge actual shipping on my complete bikes so shipping costs me not only time but money for materials. I always state in my ads that if I dont find a local deal in a reasonable amount of time I will ship but more often than not Im able to get a deal done were I dont have to ship. Also, Im lazy

Re: Just Venting

There is no market at all in OKC for old bikes,The only call I received was from a guy who is just out to lowball
and flip..I won't even let him come over ...Henry Morgan warned me about him...

Re: Just Venting

I ship parts when I have them for sale, but I won't bother shipping a bike. Too much hassle packing it and it's 60 mi. round trip to the UPS counter. Sorry. If you want one of my bikes, you have to make the pilgrimage to my place. Gary

Re: Just Venting

for my part i just dont understand buying something you did not see and inspected in person , i would never trust buying based on only pictures and sayings ..

Re: Just Venting

Shipping whole bikes is a pain in the butt. I can easily understand if someone has a local pickup only sale.

Re: Just Venting

most of my bikes sell for under $200. Shipping adds another $60-$100 onto that. Suddenly my good deal isn't that good anymore. I'd rather deliver it within 30 miles personally. Not to mention local sales remove the hassle of packing it up before i leave it to the mercy of UPS and selling it locally helps grow the hobby in my area.

if your LBS is like us, we are happy to pack your complete bike the correct way in the correct shipping box for a small fee. If anyone is unsure about shipping a complete bike just stop by your LBS and ask, I'm sure they would happy to help you out..

I recently sold my Nirve Cannibal as Local Pickup Only on ebay. The buyer lived in Texas. My LBS charged him $40-50 to box it up, and then he had to arrange for UPS or FEDEX to stop by and pick it up.

Re: Just Venting

I've had a couple deals I really wanted to do recently that were killed for no other reason than shipping costs. One involved shipping a couple wheels to the west coast, where I just simply could not find a cost-effective way to do it. I later sold the same wheels to someone in IL and shipped for substantially less.

Ironically, I had another deal in the works with someone in Chicago, and couldn't find a cost-effective way to do it. Really wanted to do the trade, but it just isn't in the cards.

I have not put any full-sized bikes up for sale in a while, but I'm about to. I'll just have to add in the $75-$100 for shipping and see what happens. It's less of an issue on a $400 bike than it is on a $40 bike. Shipping is just so random these days. Just this morning I sent a remote control in a padded envelope to CA and it was $12.50 to ship. A little while back I sent a full-sized police car light bar to someone in AZ, and the post office price was under $20. The lady at the post office couldn't believe it either. That was a box that was like 15"x15"x48".

Re: Just Venting

All good and Understanding Points , Like i said ; Just Venting :) , But at the same time my feeling is if your just doing a local "Sale" Why bother posting it here ?,
When there is Craigslist ,we all know about that site ,Right ? That's what i use for My " local Sales " Really no point i see in posting Where others can't touch it .

RafaeL + my 2 cent's

Re: Just Venting

I see no problem with posting a local sale here. It is a targeted audience and I think we have all seen enough successful local sales occur through RRB.
If I see a local sale posted that ain't local to me, I just move on to the next posting. No big deal.

Re: Just Venting

I Remember a time when posting here was posting to all the Rat Rod Community
that's what Made it great ! I thought , not being teased with Stuff that's not really available to me  But not really anything wrong with it , i'm not trying to Mandate another rule ; Still just Venting :x :( :) so you've made your point sooo NO sense in posting any more on this subject "kingfish" thank you for your comment's though :|

Seems like if Fellas want to hold there stuff some times and sell at there local shows that should be Posted in the" EVENT's" Thread ! Not in the" For Sale ". Just my 2 cent. HAVE A NICE DAY :D ..RafaeL

Not to add fuel to the fire but I just want to add a few more of my thoughts on this subject. I always post here before CL because I want to give local RRB members first crack at my stuff before the general public. I have a ad on here currently with 6 bikes for sale as local pick-up only and have sold 2 of them- 1 went to a local member that saw it here before CL and the other went to a member in FL that wanted a bike badly so he made his own arrangements to get it shipped. The later happens often on here with members helping out to get stuff shipped from sellers that dont want to, or in my case dont always have the time to break down and ship complete bikes. Ive also recently had a 3rd scenario where a buyer wanted something shipped so badly the he was willing to pay for the bike and wait as long as it took for me to get the free time to the complete shipped. Even telling the buyer that it would be at least 2 weeks before I could get it out did not deter him  and the deal got done. I guess what im trying to say is that if a person wants something bad enough there is most likely a way to get it :D

I don't ship because I have no time (go to tech school 45 mins from home) and it's a hassle.

I much rather sell my bike to somoeone I know on here than CL because I know they will take care of it  Also, I don't have to go through a hassle to get a hold of that person, like CL :D

EXACTLY!

Also, I would rather sell a whole bike local for a little bit less, then to hassle with packing. I tend to cautiously over pack everything, and a whole bike would take me forever. I would have to be getting a nice premium over my target price to want to spend the extra time to "properly" pack a whole bike.
