Fork, headset and other hurdles

So I have a great typhoon frame now and while going through the bins at the co-op I couldn't find the correct size headset. I eventually was able to take some races off a bmx fork and they fit fine. What kind of fork options do I have. Can I mix and match headset parts. They have a bunch of threaded hybrid forks. If I use some parts off one of those forks with the races I got off that bmx fork can I make it work?
Oh yeah I forgot to mention.... Some of those forks are longer and the threaded part goes beyond what I need can I safely cut it to the correct length?

you cam mix & match whatever fits & yes you can chop a fork as long as it can be tightened up !

Does it have to be a 1" fork?

just measure the head tupe diameter & fork for compatability
