went by this place in the city that is sort of like a thriftstore/junkyard (it's really odd. i don't know how else to describe it) and found a rim with a nexxus 4sp hub and coaster brake.
i see people on various forums talk about them, but i've never had or even seen one 'til now. i don't have a project lined up for it but i figure it'll be nice to have for something eventually. the main thing i'm wondering at the moment is how can i shift it?
if i picked up a 5 speed shifter would it work just using 4 shifter positions, or do i need to find a shifter made to work with the hub? is the matching shifter expensive? i only paid $5 for the wheel, so i'd hate to spend like $105 to be able to shift it. thanks for any help.
one more thing. why a 4 speed? seems like an odd numder of gears but maybe just because i'm not used to thinking of a 4sp bicycle.
