I don't know what it came off of but it's a pretty cool find. You better start looking through some more boxes if you ask me. Gary

Nothin like pickin your own back yard, Hope ya didn't have to give too much for it
Looks like a late prewar or early postwar Hawthorne....Nice dogleg crank too.

i think i might be the original one to my hawthorne (the one pictured as my avatar) when i first bought it as a package deal with a trike but that was years ago when i didnt even know what a hawthorne was  so i guess i just forgot about it but now its goin back where it belongs

Ok..i got a real rookie question..and probably get hazed for this..but here goes..just bought a "mystery tandem" off craigslist..and will try and get pics this weekend, but it has NO markings whatsoever..but my question lies in the face that it has "skip tooth" chainrings..all the way around..now..do they take standard chain or special ? Couldn't pass the bike up for the price.

i dont think a regular chain will fit because skiptooth chainrings are generally wider

Skiptooth chains are a 1" pitch so no, a standard chain will not fit. Maybe you should sell that tandem to me!! :D I have quite a few skip chains over here. Send me a picture of it.

Your out of Modesto right ? I will get some pics up for you..thought bikingangel would get a kick out of it..but her only quote was " i am going to be staring at your back" ??????
